The Phoenix Max 10 Air Shell is quite a mouthful and quite a boot. Loaded with user friendly features and a moderately stiff 90 flex shell and cuff the Phoenix Max 10 Air Shell is a wonderful boot for athletic beginners all the way through casual advanced skiers who want to retain a performance feel but refuse to give up any level of comfort. A large part of how the Max 10 manages this balance is with Air Shell technology, which is an inflatable internal bladder that can change the boot from a wide fit at 102mm to a narrow fit at 98mm and tightens the heel pocket as well. This season Tecnica simplified the Air Shell system to a single bladder for easier use without sacrificing the fit it can offer. The liner that the Air Shell works with is 3D Ultrafit liner which has had incisions added in the forefoot to better adapt to different foot widths to maximize the effectiveness of the Air Shell. It also gets Man Fur Lining for warmth and a neoprene toe box for stretch and warmth. Another reason for the convenience and comfort of the Phoenix Max 10 is the 3.5 buckle system that trades out an oversized buckle and powerstrap for the standard two buckle cuff system to offer less shin pressure with the same amount of heel hold. The cuff buckle works as a ski walk system as well, on the catch the two innermost positions keep your buckle latched when the lever is open for easier walking. For the final fit and finish cuff alignment, micro-adjustability on all three buckles, and flex adjustment with the Delta Force switch allow you to dial in the ideal fit for your foot. With all the customization the Phoenix Max 10 Air Shell has to offer, you can forget that underneath it all is a smooth skiing boot with solid heel retention that is supportive enough for anyone but larger or aggressive skiers.
